My great grandfather Andrea Martinucci was born in Chiavenna in 1856. His father was born in the nearby town of Prosto di Piuro, which is next door to both Piuro and Chiavenna.
I am genetically related to other Martinucci's including the photographer, Eugenio Martinucci. This connection has been made by DNA testing and I have not been able to trace Eugenio's family far enough back to intersect with my own.
As a male Martinucci, I have had my Y DNA fully sequenced. It is of a rare type, R-M335.
I can count on one hand the number of Y matches I have found closer than 25 generations.
All indications are that my line is of Albanian descent.
